Get verified on twitter.
Getting verified isn’t actually that hard. Tons of regular folks like us are verified, and it’s just because they know a few simple tricks.
Twitter’s a little vague about what they think constitutes grounds for verification, so you’ve just got to make them think that you’re an important person. (And truthfully, isn’t everyone?)
When you decide you’re ready to verify your account, make sure you’ve completely filled out your profile. There are a few requirements that you have to complete first before you can submit a request for verification to Twitter. You must have the following:
- verified phone number
- confirmed email address
- bio (use your bio to express why you are important to your industry)
- profile photo
- header photo
- birthday (you can still hide your year, so don't worry too much about this one)
- website
- tweets must be set as public
- copy of an official government-issued photo ID (this will be asked for later on, and not within the initial steps of applying for the badge)
If you want your company or brand to get verified instead of your personal account, you still need to upload all of this information EXCEPT your birthday and a government-issued photo ID.
After your account is fully prepared and ready to go, you can start the verification process! Start the process by filling out the form here.
This step is by far the most important. You have to justify to Twitter why you should be verified, and you better put your blood, sweat, and tears into this. (Okay not really, but make sure your answer is convincing.)
For personal accounts, explain why you have an impact in your field. If you are a company, then let Twitter know your mission as an organization.
This is not the time to be modest. This is the time for you to brag, brag, and brag, and maybe even do a little exaggerating, too. AKA, if you’re a struggling actress and the only award you’ve ever won is a Razzie, congrats! You’re an award-winning thespian now.
This is also the step where you need to provide links to back you up. If you have a personal website, insert it here. If you have an IMDB page, LinkedIn, YouTube channel where you regularly post, or anything else you feel might make you more legit, insert it here. You can add up to 5 links, so that means you should add 5 links.
Twitter should follow up within 30 days stating whether you’ve been accepted into the elite blue-check club or denied.
